    Matthew Straw (born June 19, 1997) is an American conductor, Who has assisted leading conductors such as Donald Runnicles, Cristian Macelaru, and Kazushi Ono. He is a three-time winner of the Solti Foundation Career Assistance Award.

    Career

    Matthew Straw was born in Columbia, Missouri, United States. He is the newly appointed Assistant Conductor of the Opéra National du Rhin (Strasbourg National Opera) Studio, where he will debut with a Les Contes d’Hoffmann production, which travels to Opéra de Reims in 2025. Previously, he was Assistant Conductor of the Utah Symphony, where he worked with Music Director Emeritus Thierry Fischer and Creative Partner David Robertson, and conducted over 80 concerts. Recent and upcoming highlights include debuts with the Rochester Philharmonic, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opéra de Reims, Aspen Music Festival, and the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at Interlochen.

    Growing up in a musical family of choral conductors and voice teachers, Matthew Straw fell in love with opera while studying voice with his father and accompanying his students. His repertoire now spans 20 titles, ranging from standard German, French, and Italian repertoire to new American opera, and musical theater. Matthew won the 2015 National YoungArts Award and First Prize at the 2014 Schmidt Competition.
