    Career & Life Style

    Eddie Gonzalez is an Atlanta resident, tennis volunteer, and former USTA Southern staff member. He was named the BB&T Atlanta Open (now Atlanta Open) Tournament Director and Chief Business Officer in Sept 2013. Gonzalez leads the entire P&L responsibilities of Atlanta’s premier professional tennis tournament—an ATP World Tour 250 event through its 11th year in Atlanta. The Atlanta Open is the first men’s hard court tournament of the summer US Open Series leading into the U.S. Open. Prior to joining the Atlanta Open team, Gonzalez served as Athlon Sports Vice President of Sales/National Accounts for 14 years. Gonzalez is well known to the Southern tennis & USTA national tennis community after working as USTA Southern Director of Sales & Marketing from 1990-97 and serving as a long-time USTA volunteer at the national level, currently as a Presidential Appointee.

    The Atlanta Open annually attracts the top male tennis players from around the world competing in singles and doubles competitions. In 2017, for the first time ever, women played a feature exhibition match billed as the Sunday Showdown as seven-time singles Grand Slam champion and four-time Olympic gold medalist, Venus Williams competed against Canada’s No. 1 ranked player and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model, Genie Bouchard. Since then, other top WTA players such as Coco Gauff, Sloane Stephens, Kim Clijsters, and Madison Keys have all been prior participants.

    Eddie Gonzalez was born in Detroit Michigan, on February 15th, 1966. Grew up in in Rome, GA, attending the prestigious Baylor School for HS in Chattanooga, TN. State champion tennis player in 1983 and played collegiately at North Carolina State, where he was Captain and MVP of the men’s team.

    Gonzalez earned Bachelor’s degrees from NC State in Speech Communication and Political Science.

    Married to Jennifer Lynn Hambrick of Louisville, KY in 1996. Two children, daughter, Gabriela, former D1 tennis player at Ga Tech and GT graduate, 2019. Son, Tres Gonzalez, former Ga Tech baseball standout and All-ACC player hit .344 in conference play in 2022 prior to being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 5th round of the 2022 MLB draft.
