    David Ian McKendry is an American screenwriter, producer, director, actor, and novelist. He is best known for his work on All the Creatures Were Stirring (2017) and Glorious (2022).

    Early Life

    David Ian McKendry was born on April 13, 1976, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the son of Maria Susan Colabella and Robert James McKendry Jr. He is of Scottish, Irish, and Italian ancestry.

    When he was two years old he and his family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where they lived for two years before moving to Derby, Kansas, where they live for the next five years. Afterward, the family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and then five years after that they resettled in Charlottesville, Virginia where David attended and graduated from Albemarle High School (Virginia).


    David Ian McKendry has an MFA focused on Screenwriting from California State University, Northridge. He has two Bachelor’s degrees from Virginia Tech, one in English and a second one in Theatre Arts.


    In 2005, David Ian McKendry began working for Fangoria Entertainment in New York City as a writer and producer of online video content.

    In 2015, he began work at Blumhouse, in Los Angeles as a content creator for blumhouse.com and as host of the Dungeons and Dragons podcast Fear Initiative with Morgan Peter Brown, Josh Forbes, Megan Duffy, Rob Schrab, Jeff Seidman, Cara Mandel, and Clarke Wolfe.

    Fear Initiative parted ways with Blumhouse in 2019, but continues to run independently with Laura Dromerick, Allie Goertz, and Daniel Montgomery joining the cast which still includes, Morgan, Megan, Jeff, and David.

    McKendry wrote and co-directed his first feature film with his wife Rebekah McKendry titled All the Creatures Were Stirring (2017) starring Constance Wu, Jonathan Kite, Amanda Fuller, and Brea Grant.

    Currently, David Ian McKendry lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife Rebekah McKendry, and their two children Marnie Rosetta McKendry (2013) and Dalton Strummer McKendry (2016).

    He has one older brother, Robert James McKendry III.

    The great-great-grandson of Stewart John McKendry. A Private in the United States Army from 1917 to 1919. Stewart received both the Distinguished Service Cross and the Croix de Guerre for his actions in combat while serving as a Telephone Lineman with the 17th Field Artillery Regiment during World War I.
