About
Ari Gibson is an Australian animator and Game Developer, best known for his work on the 2017 indie game Hollow Knight.
Early Career
Ari Gibson first reached notoriety in the animation industry with his 2008 animated short The Courier, as well as his 2009 animated short The Cat Piano. This early success led to him directing Bronte, an animated music video for Belgian-Australian singer Gotye’s album Making Mirrors in 2011. He also directed Sometimes the Stars that same year.
Development of Hollow Knight
After meeting William Pellen, the duo participated in several game jams together, including Ludum Dare 2013, which would later inspire Hollow Knight. Inspired by the game Jam, they launched a Kickstarter for Hollow Knight in late 2014. The duo went under the studio name Team Cherry. Ari Gibson primarily focused on the art design and animation of the game. Hollow Knight was released in 2017 to financial success and critical acclaim, often praised for its charming visuals.
Development of Silksong
In 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced. Ari Gibson returned to work on art and animation. In 2020 they were interviewed by Edge Magazine. Little is known about the production of the game.
